Lamont Roach revealed that he chose not to go to arbitration against Gervonta Davis for his decision not to have his contractually obligated rematch on August 16. Roach says PBC promoter Al Haymon and others are “setting the record straight” on Tank’s behalf.
$40 million changes everything
Instead of having a rematch with Roach, Gervonta, a Baltimore native, chose to fight the popular Jake Paul in an exhibition bout on November 14. Davis will reportedly receive an estimated $40 million for the Paul fight, which explains why he is pursuing the opportunity.
It is rumored that Roach was taken aside in lieu of a rematch to allow for a Paul vs. Davis Profitable Goes On on Netflix on November 14.
Lamont (25-1-2, 10 KOs) will challenge interim WBC light welterweight champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (28-3-1, 19 KOs) on December 6, 2025, on PBC in Prime Video PPV at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
This may be the case for Roach, as there is no guarantee that Tank Davis will fight him again. He appears to be one foot away from retirement, and may choose to walk away after all the gold bullion he carries in his exhibition match against Jake Paul.
Bitter but well paid
“I feel disrespected on the business side because you don’t do business that way,” Roach told Mike Coppinger. X About Gervonta Davis choosing to fight Jake Paul instead of moving forward with a rematch on August 16.
As you can see, Roach is still bitter about not having a rematch with Gervonta. He needs to move on already. It’s happened, it’s over, and he tortures himself whining about it 24/7. It makes him seem needy. If he wanted to be seen as a star, this kind of thing shouldn’t bother him. Fans are tired of hearing that.
“Care” for haymonas
“I think you play this sport, and I think that’s a bit strange. No, we’re not going to refereeing because I’m being well looked after,” Roach said. “I want to thank Al Haymon, PBC and everyone who made things right on his (Tank Davis) behalf.
“Even though he made a mistake on his behalf, they fixed things on my end,” Roach said.
