Ivory Coast and Senegal get two places in the USA

The final round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Africa concluded on Tuesday evening, with most of the final seats filled for next summer’s tournament.

The continent’s events are ending earlier than ever, with the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2026.

As a result, it meant that teams like Senegal and Uganda had one last chance to claim their place among the best teams in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

South Africa has reserved its place Earlier in the day, they beat Rwanda to overtake Nigeria and top Group C.

Senegal wins its place

Senegal qualified for the World Cup finals with a crushing 4-0 win over Mauritania in Dakar.

After a tight first half, Sadio Mane broke the deadlock just before the break, slotting home from close range after sustained pressure from the home side.

The Al Nassr striker doubled his tally shortly after the start of the second half, turning the ball over from the center of the penalty area to make it 2-0 and give Senegal full control of the match.

Eliman Ndiaye added the third goal midway through the second half, and finished the match calmly after an assist from Nicholas Jackson following a smooth passing move.

Substitute Habib Diallo then completed the rout in the final minutes, scoring the fourth goal from an Ismaila Sarr pass to cap the team’s decisive performance.

Ivory Coast follows suit

The Ivory Coast team followed in the footsteps of Senegal to qualify with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kenya in Abidjan.

The hosts took control early when Franck Kessie opened the scoring inside eight minutes, finishing calmly after an assist from Amad Diallo following a neat attacking move.

Yann Diomandi doubled the lead shortly after the restart, slotting home from close range after good work down the left flank by Ghislain Conan.

As Kenya took the lead late on, the Elephants scored another goal, with Amad Diallo finishing off a brilliant display with a calm finish into the top corner to make it 3-0.

Algeria leave it late

Algeria staged a dramatic late comeback to beat Uganda 2-1 and clinch their place in the World Cup.

Uganda surprised the hosts early when Stephen Mukwala scored in the sixth minute after an assist from Kenneth Semakula.

The Cranes defended admirably for most of the first half, thwarting the Algerian attack and taking a narrow lead at the break.

But the second half witnessed continuous pressure from the hosts, and their persistence finally paid off.

Mohamed Amoura scored from a penalty kick in the 81st minute to equalize with Algeria, before repeating the goal in stoppage time to snatch the victory.
