ITI upgrade: The Ministry of Skills in talks with industry, is likely to launch a pilot project

The Ministry of Skills and Entrepreneurship Development is working on policy frameworks to update 1,000 industrial training institutes (ITIS) and the establishment of five national excellence centers for skill.

According to the sources, a pilot plan will be launched in this regard either later this year or early next year. Based on its results, ITIS will be fully expanded and upgraded. The ministry is also holding talks with private sector companies and partnership with them to create HUB and Ecper ITIS, which will be based on industry needs, and the training course unit and curricula will also be designed by companies.

“We look forward to creating an ecosystem where both ITIS is created under the domain axis and the domain model for a specific sector or industry. Institutes will also be perfect in a belt or industrial field to ensure that the requirements of the skilled workforce are locally with the creation of jobs in the region,” said the person familiar with the development.

Many India Inc companies have proven interest in the program and are scheduled to participate with the Ministry of Skills.

In May, the Cabinet approved the Federation to upgrade the National Plan of the Industrial Institute for Training (ITI) and the establishment of five national centers for excellence for skill as a plan under central sponsorship. This scheme has expenses of 60,000 rupees, including 30,000 rupees, which are the central share, 20,000 rupees are the state share and 10,000 rupees are the industry share. The center’s share with a joint financing will be to 50 % of the central shares by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank on an equal footing.

The scheme will focus on upgrading 1000 ITIS government in HUB and a arrangement with the alignment industry (courses) and increasing capabilities for five national skills training institutes (NSTIS), including the establishment of five national skill centers for skill in these institutes. It aims to skill more than 20 young men over a period of five years.
