Iran calls on the French diplomatic envoy on the Cannes Festival’s “insult” festival notes

Iran summoned the French envoy in Tehran to protest the “insult” notes made by the French Foreign Minister after one of the Iranian directors won a Best Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

He described the message of congratulations as “irresponsible and provocative,” adding that France had no “ethical authority at all” to comment on Iran, noting that France’s failure to support the Palestinians in Gaza.

He demanded an official interpretation from the French government, and the envoy said that he would transfer the message to Paris.

Banahi was inside and outside the prison in recent years for his explicit criticism of the Iranian Foundation.

He spent seven months of six -year prison sentence before his release in February 2023.

He was previously sentenced to six years in prison in 2010 for supporting the anti -government protests and creating “propaganda against the regime”, and works for two months on that occasion.

In addition to his conditions in prison, he obtained a 20 -year ban on films and traveling outside his country.

“Once I finish my work here, I will return to Iran,” he told reporters at the Cannes Festival. “I will ask myself what is my next movie.”
