West Ham are likely to make additions to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad in January, as they seek to avoid a relegation battle in the Premier League. One area that could be addressed is the striker, where the London side has struggled in recent years.

Nuno has Niklas Volkrug and Callum Wilson as his number nine for the first half of the season, but there is every chance he will see someone else in January if neither player can find their form in the coming months. At least one target has now been identified when the transfer window reopens.

According to Football from the insidePete O’Rourke has confirmed that West Ham are interested in Zirkzee, and they could make a move for him when the transfer window reopens in January.

“If there was a green light for Zirkzee to leave Manchester United in January, I’m sure a lot of clubs would be backing him. The player himself is clearly frustrated with his lack of opportunities this season and could push for a departure in January if those minutes don’t improve. There has always been interest from Italy in the likes of Juventus and Como due to the success he had in Serie A before his move to Manchester United.

“West Ham, I think it’s very clear that they need a striker because he’s been a problem for them in recent years. Michail Antonio left when his contract ran out, and neither Volkrogg nor Wilson could get the No. 9 spot in the West Ham team.

“So I think if West Ham are still in relegation trouble next January, I think bringing in a new striker would be key to their survival hopes. I’m sure there would be a number of clubs who might be interested in him if Manchester United reluctantly let him leave in January.”

Zirkzee has made just four appearances for Manchester United this season, all as a substitute. It is already Thinking about life away from Old TraffordIf he seeks to stay in the Premier League, West Ham could be the perfect move for him.
