India and the United States are still committed to ending a trade agreement, as the two sides have held new tours of discussions last month.
“The good thing is that both sides are still committed to the existence of a commercial deal. Discussions and negotiations occurred last month, and both sides hoped,” said subrahmanyam, adding that links at the ministerial level are currently underway in the United States.
The CEO of Niti aayog explained that the ongoing tariff tensions have not yet affected the commercial flows, as both countries participate in deep -rooted commercial links that cannot be not binding quickly. He said: “Let me be very clear – this is my evaluation based on speaking to people on the ground. Building commercial channels is difficult, but relaxation is equally difficult. These things are not disrupted overnight.”
SubrahManyam noted that the shipments for the Christmas season are already ongoing, as goods are usually sent in September and October. “Therefore, I don’t see an coming effect before Christmas,” he said. However, he warned that if the commercial deal is not settled soon, challenges may arise next summer.
“The supplies are going now … but the summer will be a problem if we do not settle on the commercial deal. Let’s not be deceived – the tariffs are 50 % main cost factor, there is no escape from that,” Subrahmanyam warned.
He added that the decision of the commercial deal by November will be very important to ensure the continuity of work and avoid disturbances in the bilateral supply chain.
