India operates on a floor hanging on the American commercial deal at 50 stages

Government sources said to Business Today TV, so that India will not be pushed to finalize a trade agreement with the United States.

Official sources described the ongoing talks as “50-50”, stressing that New Delhi is not “desperate” to quickly conclude the temporary deal. When asked whether changing political geographical dynamics may affect the result, the sources said that the goal is to ensure the result of “winning” for both sides.

According to Washington, Washington seeks to reach expanded across many sectors, including food and agriculture – the areas that India considers political and economic sensitive. The sources noted that any concessions in this field, even in a limited ability, will require extensive local consultations.

In addition to agriculture, the United States wants the temporary deal to cover areas such as government purchases, intellectual property, customs and digital trade – including data flows.

For India, the fully decline in mutual tariffs by 26 % is still a top priority. Although this tariff was suspended until July 9, the basic duty of 10 % has already been in place since April. New Delhi also seeks to remove the US duty by 50 % on steel and aluminum imports from all countries, which affected Indian exporters. Moreover, India pushes the decline in the tariff imposed by the United States by 25 % on cars on cars and related parts.

The sources added that it is expected that the first agreement will form a major commercial agreement, with the first full segment aimed at ending before the end of this year.

Negotiations come amid the broader trade tensions raised by former US President Donald Trump’s decision in April to impose a mutual tariff on countries with trade surpluses against regional competitors in India – Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Bangladesh – struck with higher modifications and also in talks with Washington.

Despite the current challenges, the United States remains the largest export destination in India, which confirms the high risks of current discussions.
