India is likely to discuss the rupee trade with Russia

Sources close to development said that the high -level Indian delegation to Russia next week will take over the issue of trade submitted by the rupees.

A team of officials from the Ministry of Commerce is expected to be part of the delegation accompanying the Minister of Foreign Affairs S Jaishankar on his visit to Moscow. According to sources, India is likely to have a discussion on how to enhance the rupee trade mechanism.

The move comes amid increasing pressure from the United States on India and imposing a 25 % tariff on India, along with a proposed tariff of 25 % of this month. US President Donald Trump attributed this to the purchase of India from crude oil from Russia, as it was launched in the BRICS group as hostile to the United States.

Meanwhile, officials also indicated that India’s trade with China was growing positively with high imports and exports. India is in contact with the Chinese authority to address the issue of rare land magnets and ensure that supplies are not affected.

“The Chinese issued visas to our companies based on previous discussions,” they noticed.

According to official data, India’s exports to China amounted to $ 5.76 billion between April and July 2025, compared to $ 4.8 billion a year ago. China is the fourth largest export market for India. In July 2025, India’s exports to China amounted to $ 1.35 billion for $ 1.06 billion in July 2024.

Meanwhile, the source of import remains higher for India. Imports from China amounted to $ 40.66 billion between April and July 2025 compared to $ 35.96 billion a year ago.

In recent days, there has been melting in relations between India, China and India as well as looking to calibrate its approach to the BRICS. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit China for the SCO summit from August 31 to September 1. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India on August 18.
