Families of four passengers who were killed in the crash of the Air India 171 on June 12, a lawsuit at the Dillauir Supreme Court against Boeing and Haniole, the fuel swittle manufacturer in the plane. The lawsuit claims that the accident, which led to 260 deaths, was caused by the wrong fuel keys in Boeing 787. The case comes even when the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that these keys did not show that it caused the accident, which killed 260 people.

Families seek unlimited damage due to the death of Kantaben Dhirubhai Paghadal, Naavya Chirag Paghadal, Kuberbhai Patel and Babiben Patel. They also lost twelve crew members and 19 people on the ground, with only one passenger. Prosecutors are citizens and reside in India or Britain.

The case refers to consulting the 2018 US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that it recommended, but it did not require, operating some Boeing models – such as 787 – inspected the fuel cutting key mechanism. Families argue by placing the cockpit in the keys “effectively guaranteed that the activity of normal cockpit can lead to unintended fuel cut”. However, FAA stated that these keys do not seem to have caused the accident.

Air Safety Experts told Reuters that based on the key and design site, they could not accidentally turn them. The AAIB Aircraft Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has issued a preliminary report indicating that Air India did not perform recommended inspections, but maintenance records showed that the suffocating control unit, including the keys, was replaced in 2019 and 2023. AAIB stated, “All Air Air Applicable directives and alerting polytheats.”

The lawsuit is believed to be the first in the United States related to the accident. The driver’s registration showed a dialogue between the two pilots before cutting the fuel flow to the aircraft engines.

It seems that the initial report of Indian investigators acquitted Geospace, but some family groups have criticized investigators and press for their focus a lot on the actions of the pilots. Legal experts say that lawyers who represent the families of the victims often target manufacturers because they do not face the same limits on liability for airlines.
