Your guide to what the second period of Trump means to Washington, business and the world
The United States, India and Pakistan said on Saturday that two countries from South Asia agreed to stop the shooting to end their worst fighting in more than two decades.
US President Donald Trump has claimed the credit for the social media publication.
“After a long night of talks in the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” Trump wrote at his social media portal. “Congratulations to both countries for using a good sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your interest in this matter!”
Pakistan was the first of the two countries to confirm Trump’s statement. Isaac Dar, the Pakistani Foreign Minister, wrote on a social media site that the two countries “agreed to a ceasefire immediately.”
“Pakistan has always sought peace and security in the region, without compromising its sovereignty and regional safety!”
India has also said it had agreed to stop the air war, which in recent days has seen the two -state fire missiles on each other.
“The Director General of Military Operations in Pakistan, the Director General of Military Operations of India, called at 15:35 earlier this afternoon,” Vikram Maysri, Indian Foreign Minister, told a news conference in New Delhi.
“It was agreed that both sides will stop all combat and military action on the ground and in the air and the sea as of 17:00 today.”
He added: “Instructions have been given on both sides to activate this understanding.”
This is a developing story
