Content creator Nalini Unagar recently shared on social media that her house told her that she bought a 3BHK apartment in Gujarat worth $60 lakh, spending just $4 on furniture and taking a loan of just $10. When Nalini asked for more details, she learned that the domestic worker actually owned a two-storey house and a shop in a nearby village.

“My assistant came to my house today looking really happy. She told me that she just bought a 3BHK apartment in Surat worth 60 lakhs, spent ₹4 lakh on furniture and only took ₹10 lakh. I was honestly shocked. (Twitter previously)

The post quickly went viral online, sparking discussions about how some low-income workers are able to save and invest strategically, sometimes outpacing salaried employees.

One user commented: “Salaried employees are heavily taxed, while home helpers, street vendors, and similar workers often pay zero tax on their earnings. Over time, this allows them to save more and build assets faster than us.”

The second user wrote: “Our cook in Bengaluru has a 30 x 40 plot nearby, and is planning to build a 4-storey house, primarily to rent out the 3 floors. Trying to get a bank loan for the construction with some outrageous prices we hear. Her eldest daughter is playing Mornarming.”

A third commentator argued, “The middle class is being plundered at every step. Tax income, tax saving, tax spending. The bad class are given financial aid without having to show how many beneficiary schemes they actually have. Their earnings, rental income, interest income, will never be checked.”

“Our cook at BLR has a 30 x 40 plot nearby and is planning to build a 4-storey house (to rent out 3 floors in the first place). Trying to get the bank to call for construction (at some break-even rates we hear). Her eldest daughter plays for KA Hockey team and younger son for JV Narayana.
