In 2003, I spent a semester in L’Equila, Italy and fell in love with the country. I have changed the experience of study abroad.

Two years later, I went back to follow a master’s degree in Marketing and Communications Department at the University of Bokoni in Milan. Milan was familiar and fast -paced, miles away from Jaray, my neighbor Liila, and reminded me of the city in the city at the Miami house.

After I finished school, I knew I wanted to stay. The beginning of a love relationship with Italy was. I moved here permanently in 2012 after I got married to my Italian husband, Diego.

Today, we live in Milan with our six -year -old son, Lorenzo. I manage a company called To do Italy To help other Americans make a house for themselves here.

How did we make a house for us

A look inside the newly renewed Milan apartment

the bathroom

This bathroom is one of my favorite room, but it requires a lot of work. We completely softened it, and we changed the faucets and added six -year tiles, which I love. We got the tiles from a wonderful, friendly, and owned family company in Tuscany.

A hexagonal shape looks very elegant for me.

the kitchen

When we got here, the kitchen has not been renewed about 40 years ago, so it needs a lot of work. In fact, we did not have a driver not only brought kitchen tools from the old apartment, but also the appliances.

My husband and I love cooking. I often say that I live in Italy for food.

We tore the pelvis and the stove from our old apartment, and we installed it in the new place. It was an unforgettable transition. We also added some new tanks and a new combinop.

We destroyed the current wall tiles, but we kept on the floor. We also closed two side doors who used to open up in the kitchen, to give us more space than the countertop.

Stylish storage, but is still effective, in our kitchen.

Living room

To open the living space, we delivered a full wall. The living room contains natural solid floors that we have sand and added a stain.

A great place to sit and get a cup of wine.

Since the floors in the area of the corridor were tiles, we got a few wooden floors to match better with the rest of the room.

A beautiful place to sit and work and collect my thoughts.

Book shelves, gray sofa and lighting are some fun focal points for the space.

My son’s favorite part of his room is the giant map that we put on one side of the wall. He loves to refer to all different sites on it. I love it because it helps to collect all our worlds in one place.

Our room

A quiet oasis of space.

One of the most important additions we made to the apartment is the air conditioner in our bedroom. I grew up in Miami and my family from the Caribbean Sea, so I can deal with a little heat. My husband on the other hand, not much.

The air conditioner was a must.

I also love our wardrobe, which was hand -made by my husband’s grandfather in the nineteenth century. He needed a little work to bring him back to life, so he was restored.

Why do I like to live in Milan

I am in Galleria Vitorio Emmanuel II. An important shopping center in Milan, near Doomo

When we go to the market, there are a lot of high -quality ingredients to choose from. Fresh and delicious products are relatively easy and accessible here. We raise elements such as pasture eggs, milk and butter, either farms that are directly outside the city, or from the city’s farmers market.

I am in The Fresh Produce Stand in Brara neighborhood in Milan.

Free time is also a serious work in Italy. An ideal example of this is evening rituals and Aperitivo traditions.

My husband Diego, and our son Lorenzo, who is having dinner at a restaurant in Pidmont, about an hour and a half from Milan.

Once the working day ends, people will stop to a café to get a cup of wine and food for an hour or two. It is so culturally rooted that whenever we leave the park after school, my son “FacCAMO Un ‘Peritivo says – although he does not utter” A “.

On a local family farm called Zipo. They sell their slow fresh dairy products and rice. It also organizes the chapters of making cheese, where it is eaten in the end.

We will go to a living place with our friends. Children get their own table with juice and potatoes, adults will sit on our table with our adult drinks, and no one looks at us like us.

I am in the Abrutzo area of Milan, where I lived when I just moved to Italy. I am in a very cool store where you can buy your meat, then roast it on the barbecue near the store. I eat a typical dish (mainly pregnancy skewers) from the area called Arrosticini.

I love raising my son in Milan. Having children here does not mean the end of your social life. There are a lot of gardens, exhibitions, museums and a wide range of family friendly activities.

On average, the Italians get four to six weeks of the paid leave every year, and unlike the United States, people use the time of their vacation already. From Milan, we can reach Lake Como or Genova, on the beach, in less than two hours, and these are just easy daily trips.

I am in front of a beautiful gym in my neighborhood.

I grew up in a middle -class migratory family. The fact that I am now going to leave regularly in places such as Italian Dolumite and spend weekends in Vienna is not something that I consider to be a foregone. I feel incredibly blessed, and I was not happier to be here.
