Nithin Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, had the perfect blend of humor and pride as he reacted to his brother Nikhil’s latest achievement, bringing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his podcast.
“I had a question that Nikhil Kamath failed to ask: What is the skin regime that Prime Minister Narendra Modi follows? Jokes aside, this is epic!,” he wrote on X, shortly after the podcast aired with PM Modi.
The podcast marks a major milestone, not only for Nikhil but also for Prime Minister Modi, who made his first appearance on the show.
The episode is an interesting mix of politics, business, and personal reflections. On the podcast, Nikhil admitted to being nervous: “I feel nervous. It’s a difficult conversation for me.” The Prime Minister answered frankly: “This is my first podcast; “I don’t know how it will go with your audience.”
The conversation delves into important topics, including global conflicts, youth engagement in politics, and Modi’s reflections on his leadership. Recalling his stint as Gujarat’s chief minister, Modi said: “I said something insensitively. Mistakes happen. I am a human being, not a god.”
“Growing up in a middle-class home in South India, we were always told that politics is a dirty game,” Nikhil asked, raising a question that many middle-class Indians have. “What is your one piece of advice for people who think the same way?” the Prime Minister responded, saying: “If you believed what I said, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
Zerodha, run by the Kamaths, is valued at Rs 64,800 crore ($7.7 billion) and manages over Rs 5.6 lakh crore of assets. The Bengaluru-based company reported a staggering annual profit of INR 4,700 crore for FY24, and the brothers own almost all the shares in the company.
Ranked eighth among India’s biggest self-made billionaires by Hurun, the Kamaths have proven their ability to create impact beyond finance. With Nikhil now hosting the Prime Minister’s podcast, their reach into thought leadership has expanded.
