“I feel as if I failed …”: The Indian in the United States opens to visa problems and fear of returning to India

The publication of my heart by an Indian professional sparked a wave of emotional debate between expatriates who move in uncertainty in life after the end of the American student visas. The 32 -year -old user has opened to the OPT STEM visa, from “loss” and contradiction as his time in the United States approaches its end.

In his post, the user participated that he came to the United States in 2021 with a F1 visa and plans to continue working during the CPT program on the first day after the optional practical training period (OPT). However, after strengthening his project and was released from work, his plans decreased with only a few months before his visa ended.

“Frankly, I suffer from mixed emotions … It seems as if I had spoiled a place – just as I failed to make the most of the opportunity that I had had,” he wrote. “I know rationally that success does not depend on staying here, but in the depths of these continuous ideas continues to disturb me – I somehow missed a golden opportunity.”

Mixed reactions

The post gained traction among the members of the Reddit community, many of whom participated in similar experiences or displaying words of encouragement.

One of the users wrote sympathy, “Think about this: When you started obtaining your testimony, was your goal to be happy and well employment? Or was it possible to live in the United States forever? The two are not the same!

Another user, who went through the same stage, advised to stay optimistic, “I went through the same thing in 2019 after I was in the United States for 5.5 years. I know it is arduous, but this is not the end.

However, not everyone agreed. A third user presented a flagrantly different opinion, on the pretext that returning to India will be a “step back”.

“It was possible to stay in the United States and increase your gain capabilities. The peace of mind that people talk about will evaporate within six months – all you will leave is the dilapidated infrastructure and lack of privacy,” the comment stated.

A common dilemma

This post highlights a familiar dilemma faced by thousands of Indian students and professionals in the United States – torn between the pursuit of stability abroad and the withdrawal of the house. For many, the uncertainty about H-1B visas, functional security, and the emotional loss of long-term life often hold the decision.

While opinions remain divided, the discussion confirms the existence of increasing feelings between the young Indians abroad – that life after returning to the homeland does not necessarily represent the end of success, but the beginning of a new chapter.
