How Two of the Darkest Movies Ever Prepared Jason Clarke for The Last Frontier (Exclusive)

If anyone is under the impression that actors don’t realize they’re being typecast into similar roles over and over again, let Jason Clarke dispel those rumors — along with any doubts about whether or not this is truly a negative thing. As the star of the Apple TV+ series “The Last Frontier,” the actor portrays Frank Remnick, the US Marshal of a small town in Alaska. After assuming a central leadership role when a plane carrying some of the country’s worst and most violent criminals crashes in his backyard, Frank quickly discovers that he is on the sidelines of a chain of events far greater than he ever thought possible. It’s not a role Clarke is unfamiliar with, to say the least, having made a career playing numerous cops, soldiers, and other straight-laced military men over the years. To his credit, he knows this comes with its own benefits.

During a recent interview, I asked Clark if he was able to transfer certain traits from one role to the next. Be it that Verbally accusing Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer of coming within an inch of his life Or channeling similar interrogative energy as a CIA intelligence officer in “Zero Dark Thirty,” each of these spiritually connected performances (and more) all helped lead Clark into someone as nuanced and fascinating as Frank — a man who lives by a strict ethical code in his work, even when it leads to complications in his personal life. As Clark explained:

“It was in me. You carry them all with you, and they sit inside you. There’s a lot of my father in this, a guy who shears sheep and works hard. There’s a simplicity and beauty of that, and the decency of it. Zero Dark Thirty, the detective, the interrogation scenes in this, they all add to the movie and that leads to the Oppenheimer – the ability to sit there and listen during the interrogation, the ability to needle a little bit to get something out, but you have to be Friends too. “They all, they all come down to something else.”

You won’t believe this, but Jason Clarke still doesn’t believe it last A role in an upcoming movie where he plays a military admiral. “dynamite house,” which deals with the US government’s response to an imminent nuclear attack, sees the actor reuniting with ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ director Kathryn Bigelow in a film about power structures collapsing under the weight of extreme scenarios. After spending many weeks and months living in Frank Remnick’s skin in ‘The Last Frontier’, Clarke finds himself in the perfect headspace To move on to his role in “A House of Dynamite”. More practically, his past history with consulting real-life figures who were real admirals, police officers or soldiers in their field also tends to be helpful as well. Clark went on to say:

“And then there are a lot of police shows, a lot of military. There are really. Kathryn Bigelow, who (gave me) to play an admiral in (‘A House of Dynamite’), I was able to fly in there and hit the ground running because I’ve worked with a lot of them, and I’ve met a lot of them.”

For those who have yet to watch the upcoming Netflix film, rest assured that it features another believable Clarke performance in a role that is uniquely suited to him.
