How does Samsung’s first VR headset compare to the Vision Pro? These leaks may tell us everything

If you are waiting impatiently Samsung Project Moohan VR headsetI have good news and bad news. The good news is that we now (probably) know everything there is to know about its arrival Vision Pro competitor. Bad news? We still don’t know when we’ll be able to use one for ourselves.

Thanks to the comprehensive leak of Android addresseswe now know that “Project Moohan” is most likely called the Samsung Galaxy XR in official internal language. One thing that caught my attention about the Samsung Galaxy XR is that, unlike Apple’s Vision Pro, the headset will come with two controllers very similar to the ones the Meta includes with Task 3 and 3S. This will be coupled with an eye and hand tracking UI that works like VisionOS, the software inside Apple’s Vision Pro.

The leaks also suggest that the Samsung Galaxy One area where it might excel, if leaks are to be believed, is that it’s a bit lighter than the Vision Pro, at 545g versus 600g. That’s not a huge amount of weight to shed, but any improvement in the heft of the Vision Pro-level is welcome in my book.

Oh, and it looks pretty comfy too. There is a lot of padding on the internal parts that rest against your forehead, which is important if you plan to wear it for longer periods. One of my least favorite parts of the Vision Pro is how heavy it actually feels on your face and neck, so any extra support is huge. Speaking of wearing the headset for extended periods, Android Headlines leaks suggest that the Samsung Galaxy XR has a battery life of around two hours, which puts it on par with the Vision Pro. Unfortunately, it will take an external battery pack to get there, just like the Vision Pro.

There’s one huge detail we don’t know yet, which is the price. Based on all the almost certain information we have now, I imagine this won’t be a cheap headphone. Will professional vision be expensive? Hopefully not. I can’t think of too many people who would be excited about purchasing a $3,500 headphone. However, rumors suggest that it could fetch between $1,700 and $2,900. In both ranges, it’s a lot of money to pay for a headphone, even if it’s as premium as the leaks suggest. Maybe Samsung will have more success selling devices similar to the Vision Pro, but if I were a betting man, I’d bet that Moohan’s project will actually be a Samsung project.
