Hopes in the Trade Agreement in India, the last trench may be a agreement for some goods

With about a week’s passage before the mutual tariff began, a commercial deal between India and the United States has not yet been signed with both sides to protect their interests.

According to the sources, the last solution can be an initial deal that covers partial goods of mutual interest. This can be signed before July 9 with the first segment of the bilateral trade agreement that is closed in the coming months in September or October 2025.

“Until now, there is no clarity on how to follow up on negotiations. Both countries have some interests that are keen to protect. For India, it is still from dairy and agriculture, which are sensitive issues. The United States is concerned with full access to these sectors,” said a source close to development.

Currently, a possible solution can be covered by some goods, services or some goods of common concern, such as intensive goods of workers including clothes, leather and precious stones from India while maintaining other goods outside the scope of conversations. But it is still hoped that the political batch will help move forward in the parked talks.

The Indian delegation of officials led by the chief negotiator and a private secretary, the Ministry of Commerce, Rajesh Aguar, remains in the United States and works to get rid of these differences.

The process of tariffing the treatment of the United States will start from July 9, after a 90 -day stop. The United States plans to impose a 26 % tariff on Indian goods, including 10 % foundation tariffs.

The sources said that as of export orders to India from the United States, they continue and not be affected. There is some front loading for shipments before the deadline on July 9. A source in the industry said: “Sources are still hoping for an agreement. As of now, exporters have no challenge yet. There is a rush of shipments in most sectors, except for steel and aluminum where the definitions are already 50 % high.”

It is also understood that some of these issues have been discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Trade and Industry with the councils of exporting and industry associations on Monday.
