This is the title of a great book by Dr. Rafael Como, a professor at the University of California, the College of Medicine at San Diego. The main thesis is that addictive behaviors make us more vulnerable to cancer. Addiction is not just drug use such as drugs, alcohol or smoking, but it occurs in many other forms prevailing in our modern society. These addictions include social media or other “screen shapes” and unspecified foods.
Dr. Komo explains in detail the ways in which these risks grow in cancer, through a variety of mechanisms such as weakening our immune systems, increasing chronic inflammation, throwing insulin signals, and mechanisms for delusing. Fortunately, all this can be improved with lifestyle changes such as lower screen time, better sleep, better diet, exercise. This list is significantly similar to what you will read about lifestyle and aging, so this was more motivated to continue working on the lifestyle that I already follow for healthy aging. I strongly recommend this interesting and well -written book.
