Eddie Herne says that there is a group of “10 fighters” considering choosing it as the next Anthony Joshua opponent. From that group, Martin Bacol, Yves Gagba and Tony Yuka mentioned three possibilities.
Bacoling choosing a risky return
The promoter of the match, Herne, said that he is not sure whether Bacol (21-2, 16 Cos) is the right choice for former heavyweight hero Joshua (28-4, 25 Cos) to fight, given that Joshua starts from 15 months. This will be a difficult battle for AJ even if it does not start from a long break.
What holds Herne’s job is the bad judge that AJ suffered in his last battle against Daniel Dubua on September 21, 2024. Dubua came out of Joshua in the fifth round. Aj dropped four times in the battle, and ended with it, it was calculated in round 5.
Jake Ball’s fight is still on the radar
Herne states that he is still interested in fighting Jake Paul for Joshua in early 2026, but he is not sure whether the popular fighter will get his match on November 14 against Gervonta Davis without injury. Joshua will not sit and wait for that battle.
Herne said IFL TV There is a “group of I do not know 10 fighters” that Anthony Joshua can fight after that. “Bacol? Yes. This is not an easy battle. I also got angry.”
Bacol, 33, did not seem good in the last battles against Yves Agbaja and Joseph Parker. His choice at this stage will be an uncomfortable situation for Joshua, because he will not get credit for overcoming it. If AJ loses or struggles to win, he will be criticized by fans.
Tony Yuka brings size and access
Tony Yuka (14-3, 11 KOS) will be a difficult battle, which is likely to be Joshua, and he does not get the credit for it. Yuka, who won the 2016 Olympic Gold Medal, has a 3-3 in his last six battles, and his only victory has faced dark fighters.
Joshua long opponents disturbed
In 6’7 ′, Yuka has the size to overcome Joshua if his resistance is not obstructed by his loss to Dubua. 6’6 ″ AJ will not have length and access to Yuka as he had during most of his career against a smaller opposition. Long tall fighters who fought Joshua, 6’6 ″ Wladimir Klitschko and 6’5 ″ Dubois, gave him problems.
“You have to ask yourself with (Joshua) from getting out of the ring for 15 months, is this correct battle to return to it?”.
The way Herne speaks, does not seem keen on Joshua to fight Bacol. You can’t blame it. Although Bacol had weight problems in his last battles, he is still strong and will pose a threat to Joshua as long as he continues.
