President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin Alaska left on Friday Without a ceasefire agreementAlthough both men described the meeting as a building.
In what the White House described as a press conference after their meeting, Mr. Trump and Putin did not take any questions, ignoring the screaming from the correspondents.
Putin did not talk a lot about Ukraine, with a focus on bonds and heritage between the United States and Russia, while Mr. Trump said that many points had been agreed upon, leaving a few Ukraine. He said that the American president is planning to contact European leaders and Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski.
Here is a copy of what Mr. Trump and Putin said:
Putin: Mr. President, women and gentlemen, our negotiations were held in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
We have very comprehensive negotiations that were very useful. I would once again thank my American counterpart, for the proposal to travel here to Alaska. It is only logical that we met here, because our countries, despite their separation by the oceans, are close neighbors. So when we met, when I got out of the plane and said, “Good evening, my dear neighbor. It is very good to see you in good health and see you alive. I think this is very ongoing. I think these are nice words we can tell each other. We have separated from the Bering Strait, though, there are only two islands between the Russian island and the American island. They are only four kilometers away. We are close neighbors.
It is also important that Alaska relate to our joint heritage and common history between Russia and the United States, and many positive events related to this region. However, there is a tremendous cultural heritage, dating back from Russian America, for example, the Orthodox Churches, and a lot of 700 geographical names of Russian origin. During World War II, here in Alaska was the origin of the legendary air bridge to supply military aircraft and other equipment as part of the lending program.
It was a dangerous way and left on the vast void of the ice. However, the pilots in both countries did everything to bring victory. They risked their lives and gave them everything to the joint victory. I was only in the city of Majadan, Russia. There is a memorial for Russian, American pilots. There are secularism, the American flag and the Russian flag. I know that here too, there is such a memorial. There is a place for military burial several kilometers from here. Soviet pilots are buried there who died during that dangerous task. We are grateful to citizens and the US government to carefully care for their memory. I think this is very worth and noble. We will always remember other historical examples when our countries defeated the enemies of together in the spirit of intimate friendship and battle that supported each other and facilitating each other. I am sure that this heritage will help us rebuild and enhance useful and equal relationships for both parties at this new stage, even during the most difficult circumstances.
It is known that there were no players between Russia and the United States for four years, and this is a long time. This time it was very difficult for bilateral relations, and let us be honest, as they fell to the lowest point since the Cold War. I think this does not benefit from our countries and the world as a whole. It is clear that it sooner or later, we have to adjust the situation to move from the confrontation to the dialog box, in which case, a personal meeting between the heads of state has not been delayed for a long time, and of course, in light of the state of hard and painful work, and this work was done.
In general, President Trump has a very good direct contact. We talked several times. We talked frankly on the phone. The President’s Special Envoy, Mr. Witkeov, traveled to Russia several times. Our advisers and heads of foreign ministries have continued to contact all the time, and we know very well that one of the central cases was the situation throughout Ukraine.
We see the administration and President Trump personally to help facilitate the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, and his endeavor to reach the essence of the matter, to understand this date, is precious. As I said, the situation in Ukraine is related to the basic threats of our security. Moreover, we have always looked at the Ukrainian nation, and I said it several times, which is a brotherly nation. How strange is in these circumstances. We have the same roots, and all that happens is a tragedy for us, a terrible wound. Therefore, the country is devoted to putting an end to it.
At the same time, we are convinced that in order to make the settlement permanent and long -term, we need to eliminate all the initial roots, the main reasons for this conflict, and we said it several times, and we look at all the legal concerns of Russia, and clarification from Ocean, in the world. Of course, we are ready to work on it.
I would like to hope that the agreement we have reached together will help us to advance this goal and the path towards peace in Ukraine will help us. We expect KYIV and EuropEan Capitals to see this in constructively and that they will not throw a key in business. They will not make any attempts to use some rear transactions to make provocations to empty the emerging progress.
By the way, when the new administration reached power, bilateral trade began to grow. It is still very symbolic. However, we have 20 % growth. As I said, we have a lot of dimensions for joint work. It is clear that American and Russian investment and trade cooperation has tremendous potential. Russia and the United States can offer each other in trade, digital, high technology and space exploration. We see that the Arctic cooperation is also possible, in our international context. For example, between the far east of Russia and the western coast of the United States
In general, it is very important for our country to return to cooperation. It is symbolic that, not far from here, the border between Russia and the United States, there was a line called international history. I think you can step down, literally, from yesterday to tomorrow, and I hope this will succeed- in this political field. I would like to thank President Trump for our joint work for the trusted and confident tone in our conversation.
It is important that both sides are directed towards the result and we see that the President of the United States has a very clear idea of what he wants to achieve. He is honestly interested in the prosperity of his nation. However, he realizes that Russia has its national interests.
I expect today’s agreements to be the starting point, not only to resolve the Ukrainian issue, but also will help us to restore business -like relations between Russia and the United States
In the end, I would like to add something else. I would like to remind you that in the year 2022, during the last contact with the previous administration, I tried to persuade my former American colleague, and the situation should not be largely, when he comes to hostilities and accepts it directly at that time, and this is a big mistake. Today, when President Trump says if the president is at that time, there will be no war, and I am completely sure that it will be. I can confirm it. I think that in general, President Trump has built a very good connection that resembles business and confidently, and we have all reasons for the belief that moving in this path, we can come and assume that it is better until the end of the conflict in Ukraine. Thank you. Thank you.
Trump: Thank you very much, Mr. President, that was very deep, and I will say that I think we have a very fruitful meeting. There were many points that we agreed to, most of them, I would like to say, two great couple we did not get there, but we have made some progress. So there is no deal until there is a deal.
I will call NATO a short time ago, and I will call different people I think they are suitable, and I am, of course, I will invite President Zelinski and tell him about today’s meeting. It is up to them in the end. They will have to agree on Marco, Steve and some great people from the Trump administration who came here, Scott and John Ratcliffe. Thank you very much. But we really have some of our great leaders. They were doing a tremendous job.
We also have some massive Russian business representatives here. And I think, as you know, everyone wants to deal with us. We have become the most important country anywhere in the world in a very short period of time, and we look forward to that. We look forward to dealing- we will try to finish.
We really have made some great progress today. I have always had a great relationship with President Putin, with Vladimir. We had many difficult meetings and good meetings. We have interfered by Russia, Russia and Russia a trick. It made it a little more difficult, but he understood it. I think he might have seen things like this during his career. He saw everything. But we had to bear the trick of Russia, Russia and Russia. He knew that he was a hoax, and I knew he was a hoax, but what was done was a very criminal, but it made it difficult for us to deal with it as a country, in terms of work, and all the things you want to deal with, but we will have a good opportunity when that ends.
So just to put it very quickly, I will start making some phone calls and tell them what happened. But we held a very fruitful meeting, and many points were agreed. There are very few remaining. Some are not great. One of them is likely to be the most important, but we have a good opportunity to get there. We didn’t get there, but we have a good opportunity to get there. I would like to thank President Putin and his entire team, which I know, in many cases, otherwise, otherwise, who I see their faces all the time in the newspapers, you are very famous like the president, but in particular this is one here.
But we held some good meetings over the years, right? Good and fruitful meetings over the years, and we hope to face it in the future. Let’s do more productive now. We will truly stop, 5, 6, 7 thousand, 1,000 people per week from killing, and President Putin wants to see this as much as I do. So again, Mr. President, I would like to thank you very much, and we will talk to you very soon, and I may see you again very soon. Thank you very much, Vladimir.
Putin: Next time in Moscow.
Trump: Oh, this is interesting. I don’t know. I will get a little heat on it, but I can see it happens. Thank you very much, Vladimir, and thank you all. Thank you. Thank you.
Putin: Thank you very much.
