‘He asked me to pay INR 3,000’: Software engineer recalls dangerous job interview in Delhi

Job interviews can be nerve-racking for many job seekers due to questions about compensation or perhaps some uncomfortable questions about a long gap between two job opportunities.

For this job seeker, a job interview was enough to make him realize that the world is really shitty. According to a post on Reddit, this job seeker had a scary experience in Delhi’s Kirti Nagar area when he was a fresh graduate and had just started looking for work.

“I received a phone call from a consulting firm claiming that they are recruiting in top companies through an external agency and will help me with my placement. They told me that the interview was in Kirti Nagar, so I went there, but when I arrived, the building seemed shady.”

He added that African bodyguards were standing outside the building, which made him feel disturbed. The user said that when someone asked where the interview was, he was told to go inside where an HR person was waiting for him.

“I walked into the room, and was greeted by a woman in her mid-30s. She said she had connections with major companies, and showed me fake photos of candidates who had been hired at Microsoft through them. She asked me about my skills, when I mentioned Java, and started asking me questions.”

The job seeker deliberately gave wrong answers just to the HR employee’s test. When the latter told her it was fine, he knew something was wrong because she had no knowledge of Java. Then she asked him to pay INR 3000.

“Then she asked me to pay her 3,000 rupees. I was desperate to leave but I noticed a guard standing near the door, and several men outside. I only had a 500-rupee note, so I handed it over and told her I needed to go out to get the rest of the money.”

He managed to convince the HR employee but the bodyguard followed him downstairs. He ran as fast as he could as soon as he got out of the building and took the subway because the bodyguard couldn’t follow him on the public road.

“It was a very frustrating experience. I traveled a long distance to do that interview, as I was already having difficulty receiving calls. This scam made me feel even more frustrated and defeated during that time. It is sad that these scammers are out there preying on innocent people,” it said. In the post.
