“The United Kingdom and Israel have long been allies despite their differences.

British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer criticized the humanitarian “Israel’s star” in Gaza in the wake of a controversial meeting with Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog in London.

“They must prevent the human man -making starvation from more aggravating by allowing help and stopping their offensive operations,” said a Downing spokesman on the street after the meeting on Wednesday.

The spokesman said that Starmer “appealed to Israel to change the path” in Gaza.

The rare reprimand is one of the most powerful Starmer criticism of Israel since he took office in July 2024. It also comes as relief groups have warned that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are facing catastrophic hunger after nearly two years of bombing and resources.

Herzog’s visit to London has sparked widespread criticism in the United Kingdom, as thousands of Downting Street showed for a second consecutive day, according to the Palestinian Solidarity campaign.

The demonstrators also gathered at the London Intellectual Research Center, where Herzog gave a speech.

“There is a collective genocide that speaks and the head of that country in our country is welcomed here, when no one is happy with that,” a protester said.

“This is not diplomacy,” another protester said.

“You help and incite genocide – and this man is not welcome in our country.”

The meeting between Herzog and Starmer came a day after Israel launched an air strike on Qatar, a close ally of the United States and the United Kingdom, targeting the Hamas Command delegation.

Downting Street spokesman said that Starmer told Herzog that the strike on Doha was “unacceptable” and condemned it as “a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the main partner.”

Despite the sharp words, the spokesman added that “the United Kingdom and Israel are long allies.”

Speaking after his meeting with Starmer, Herzog confirmed that the two leaders “argued with respect.”

“It was said that things were difficult and strong,” Herzog said, adding, “It is clear that we can say, because when the allies meet, they can argue. We are both democracies.”

Herzog also said that he called the UK to send a “fact -finding mission” to Israel “to study the situation in Gaza at the human level.

Herzog said publicly that “the entire (Palestinian) nation” was responsible for the October 7 attacks on Israel, and after two months, he personally witnessed artillery shells to be fired in Gaza.

In Parliament earlier on Wednesday, the leader of the Scottish National Party, Stephen Flynn, asked: “What does this Prime Minister say that he will harbor this man while the children come out?”

He defended his decision to meet Herzog, and refuse calls to reduce diplomatic relations. “I will not give up diplomacy,” he said.

“This is the student policy.”
