Has a new League of Legends trailer debuted for a mysterious sequel?

“Arcane” seemed like a shock to the TV animation system. It’s an epic sci-fi series with unprecedented production design that can rival any big-budget blockbuster feature. Not to mention its wide-ranging story, which centers around an entire city revolutionized by the discovery of mysterious technology, while at the same time telling a poignant and compelling story of two sisters separated by tragedy.

The first season of “Arcande” did for TV animation what “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” did for movies. He promised a radical future for animation where series were allowed to experiment in 3D, live-action filmmaking techniques could be applied to the animated medium, and even the 30-minute episode format could change in favor of hour-long episodes like The Prestige. Drama. It’s also no wonder the show looks so good, since it cost as much to produce as a blockbuster live-action movie. This is correct, “Arcane” is, not surprisingly, the most expensive animated show ever. Just as Season 1 shocked audiences, offering a surprisingly good adaptation of the hugely popular “League of Legends” video game, audiences were surprised again when Netflix and Riot Games announced the conclusion of “Arcane” with its second season.

Originally, the plan was for “Arcane” to run for five seasons instead of two — something painfully evident in the atrocious pacing of season two, which attempts to condense multiple seasons’ stories into just nine episodes, leaving many questions unanswered and a full future for the director. Riot Games’ TV show (along with the fate of any other “League of Legends” TV shows) is up in the air. That was until this week when Riot Games and Studio Fortiche, which produced “Arcane” and animated the animation, released a cinematic trailer for the next competitive season of “League of Legends.” The “Welcome to Noxus” trailer is exactly what you might expect from this type of cinematic blockbuster, complete with cool battles featuring fan-favorite heroes and a showcase of the various locations that will be the focus of the new season.

However, what makes the trailer interesting is that it has the same visual style and quality as ‘Arcane’, as well as a surprising amount of story that includes direct references to the animated series.

The first hint that the trailer might be more than just a great promotion for the game comes at the moment when we see Mel – a council member from Piltover and one of the main characters of “Arcane” – walking through some Noxus ruins. Her arc ended in Season 2 with her seemingly taking on her mother’s role in Noxus’ army and presumably her resolve to investigate the mysterious Black Rose faction, clearly teasing a larger story that was left unexplored.

The trailer still includes cool battles that have nothing to do with “Arcane,” showing the heroes Trundle and Darius engaging in an icy battle in the Freljord region of the games. However, it’s the final part of the show that raises some big questions. Not only do we see the leaders of Black Rose, LeBlanc, and Vladimir talking (with brand new designs that bear no resemblance to their in-game appearance and are more in line with “Arcane”), but LeBlanc makes a direct reference to the events in Piltover, making it clear that the trailer takes place after Fatal events in “Arcane” Season 2.

This is, to say the least, a great finale that shows that Season 2’s influences extend across the world of Runeterra. Given the focus on Noxus in “Arcane” Season 2, and the fact that Riot Games has three new “League of Legends” TV shows currently in development, it’s possible that this trailer could also serve as a teaser for the future of the franchise, that is. Tease what could be. Yes, “Arcane” was the most expensive animated TV show ever, and a financially irresponsible production. But Riot Games is one of the biggest gaming companies on the planet, so they have enough money. Bring on another season, you cowards!
