He has already announced his retirement from Test and T20I cricket and will next travel to Australia for a three-match ODI series starting on October 19.
Speaking ahead of the tour, Harbhajan Singh expressed his happiness to see Kohli back in cricket and called him the best cricketer in the world.
“Please do not ask any questions about Virat’s fitness. When it comes to fitness, he is a guru. Everyone follows what he does. There is absolutely no concern about Virat Kohli’s fitness; he is fit, probably fitter than many of those playing alongside him currently. In international cricket today, he is arguably the fittest player ever. Now, I am just looking forward to seeing Virat back in action,” Harbhajan said. “The fans have missed watching him, and I personally would like to see him continue playing in the One-Day International for a while longer because he still has a lot to offer.”
I honestly felt he still had four to five years to go – Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh also criticized Virat Kohli for retiring from the two formats, saying the right-handed batsman still has 4-5 years of dominance left.
“I honestly felt he still has four to five years to go, not just to play, but to dominate, because that’s the kind of batting he has. Now he’s heading to Australia, his favorite place to bat, and I’m sure he will show his mettle again there.
“We have seen him score a lot of runs in those conditions before, and I think he will do it again. The same goes for Rohit, and I am looking forward to these legends scoring big runs for India and helping the team win matches,” Harbhajan said.
Backed Virat Kohli to hit 2 tons against Australia
Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill has made it clear that Virat Kohli is in their plans for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. However, the path to prominent contention will not be easy for Virat Kohli due to his limited appearances in competitive cricket.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh also said that a top player like Virat Kohli likes to play in difficult conditions and expected him to score a double century in the ODI in Australia.
“Some players thrive when the going gets tough; that’s when they bring out their best. Virat Kohli is one of those players. He shines on the big occasions, and that’s what sets him apart from others. He waits for those big opportunities, those high-pressure matches, and that’s when he shows why he’s a champion.
“When you play against the best, that’s when you earn respect, and he has earned that, especially after scoring those hundreds in Australia and taking the responsibility of leading the team. These are the challenges he looks forward to. Australia is his favorite hunting ground, and now he’s coming back after the Indian Premier League. I’m really looking forward to seeing him bat in those three matches, and I hope, out of those three, he gets at least two centuries for India,” he said. Harbhajan.
