Hamas says it will issue an American hostage of Israel, Adan Alexander, who is believed to be the last neighborhood prisoner with the nationality of the United States in Gaza, as part of the efforts made to reach the ceasefire agreement.
The decision comes before President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East on Tuesday. Hamas said it was also aimed at facilitating a deal to enter humanitarian aid. Gaza was under the Israeli siege for 70 days.
Earlier, a senior Hamas official told the BBC that the Palestinian Armed Group was holding direct negotiations with the US administration official in Qatar.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s office said that the United States was informed of Hamas’s intention to release Alexander.
A senior Palestinian official told the BBC that the Hamas announcement was intended from the goodwill of the intention before Trump’s arrival.
He said that another meeting between Hamas and the brokers was scheduled to be held early on Monday morning to end the Edan launch, which requires a temporary stop of the Israeli military activity and the suspension of air operations during delivery.
President Trump confirmed the release of Alexander in a post on the social truth, describing him “enormous news” and “a step taken in good faith.”
21 -year -old Alexander was born in Tel Aviv but grew up in New Jersey, and he was working in the elite infantry unit on the border with Gaza when he was taken by Hamas militants during the October 7 attack.
Of the 251 hostages, they were captured during the Hamas attack for the year 2023, 59 remained in the pocket, and it is believed that up to 24 of them alive. It is believed that five hostages in Gaza are American citizens and Alexander is believed to be the only one who is still alive.
In its statement, Hamas said that the release was part of the efforts made to achieve a ceasefire and allow food, medicine and other supplies in Gaza – which was under the full siege by Israel for a period of 70 days. The group said it wanted to reach a final agreement to end the war.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s office said in a statement that the United States had informed Hamas’s structure to release Alexander as a “gesture towards Americans” and this step is expected to lead to more hostages negotiations.
She added that Israel’s policy is that negotiations will take place “under fire, based on the commitment to achieving all the goals of the war.”
The Group of the Families and Family Campaign Campaign said that the Alexander version “must be the beginning of a comprehensive agreement that will secure the freedom of all the remaining hostages.”
They said President Trump “gave the families of all the hostages hope” and urged Netanyahu to “return everyone.”
Hamas said in the past that it would only agree on a deal that includes the end of the war, which was rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again and again.

Talks are taking place between Hamas and the United States amid multiple reports indicating the increasing frustration in the Trump administration with Netanyahu’s position. The Prime Minister is also under pressure at home, as many accused him of prolonging the war for political purposes.
President Donald Trump arrives in the Middle East on Tuesday, and Israel pledged to expand its military attack against Hamas if a deal is not reached by the end of his visit.
Israeli officials said that their expanded attack plans include the seizure of all lands indefinitely, the displacement of the Palestinians by force to the south, and the distribution of aid with private companies despite the opposition from the United Nations and its humanitarian partners, who say they will not help because it seems to be “tools.”
Israel has already prevented the entry of all food, medicines and other humanitarian supplies to Gaza for a period of 70 days, which relief agencies say they reach a policy of hunger and can be a war crime, and its air strikes and other military operations are renewed there in the middle of the brush, which has been killed since then 2720 of the Hamas -run vertines.
Since the beginning of the year, according to the United Nations, about 10,000 cases of acute malnutrition have been identified among children. Food prices increased by up to 1,400 %.
The war arose by Hamas’s attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which witnessed about 1,200 people who were killed and more than 250 hostages. About 59 years old, up to 24 of whom are alive.
Israel’s military campaign killed 52,829 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health.
