Gunmen were killed by the mayor of San Matteo Pinas in the latest deadly attack on local officials.

Witnesses said that four armed men arrived in motorcycles, stormed the village hall and opened fire on the mayor, Laila Jima Garcia Soto, and a local official at a meeting with her, Elie Garcia Ramirez.

Two municipal police officers were injured in the attack.

While officials are still investigating the potential motivation for killing, local officials often target criminal gangs for their failure to provide their bids.

Garcia Soto is the second mayor who is killed in the state of Oaxaka this year. In May, the mayor of Santiago Amoultebek was killed in an ambush with two other people who were in the car with him at the time of the attack.

The governor of Oakaka condemned this last killing, adding that the crime will not go without punishment.

However, the security forces are still searching for the four militants, who fled after the attack.

The state prosecutor’s office said that federal agents had been published in the area to help determine their location.

Violence was against local politicians and those who run for positions in Mexico in a rise in recent years, as it has risen in the period before the general elections last year.

Most attacks occurred in small cities where organized crime groups are particularly strong, but last month Two major assistants were killed by the mayor of Mexico in the capital In the escalation of the violence that shocked the country.
