Guardiola fears that Manchester City can miss the goals without football in the Champions League

Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City may miss the summer transfer goals if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

The city is currently ranked fifth in the Premier League before a trip to Everton on Saturday afternoon, and it is in the last four of the FA Cup.

With six matches in the league, the Guardiola team needs to finish the first five places to secure the Champions League, but with both Chelsea and Aston Villa a point behind them, City is far from being guaranteed.

“If they have a lot, I am sure that the players look at the UEFA Champions League players, of course.

“The players may come anyway, and there are others who say they do not want to go because the Champions League is not. I don’t know. I didn’t talk to one player who is likely to be for the next season, so I don’t know.”

Regarding the possibility of some of the current crops of players who leave in the city if football is not achieved in the Champions League, Guardiola added: “They have contracts. With the exception of Kevin (De Bruyne), all of them have other contracts.

“The club and the organization decide what is better. The club is of course behind the scenes what they must do, but I am concerned about these six games (Premier League) and the FA Cup.

“After that, start a week holiday, 10 days, and the fifth of June again with seven days before traveling to the United States and preparing for the World Cup (club).”
