Anthony Gordon led England towards the 2026 World Cup finals after scoring a goal in the 25th minute of the Three Lions’ match with Latvia.

Thomas Tuchel’s men were struggling to break down their defensive-looking opponents in Eastern Europe, but the Newcastle winger had a plan of his own to break the deadlock.

Regarded as England’s brightest player, the man who came on to replace Marcus Rashford in the 3-0 win over Wales beat the offside trap on the left side.

He cut the ball inside, before firing a right-footed shot into the far corner, leaving the Latvian goalkeeper no chance to stop his shot.

England just need a win to secure their place in the USA, Canada and Mexico next summer, and are looking to cruise to victory.

But there is still plenty of time left in the match, with Latvia now going on the attack in search of an equaliser.
