Google to pay 30 million dollars to settle the semester suit on the privacy of children

Google has reached a settlement on a lawsuit claimed to have collected illegal data from children’s users without parental approval through the YouTube video platform and then sent it targeted ads. The technology giant will register $ 30 million to settle the proposed semester suit. according to Prosecutors’ lawyers said that there could be between 35 million to 45 million members. Children between the ages of 13 or the youngest can be covered between July 1, 2013 and April 1, 2020. The proposed settlement was made last night and now awaits the approval of the judge.

This settlement reaches a slap on the wrist compared to Google was faced in 2019 after a similar lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Committee for the alleged violations of the online privacy protection law for children. Under the conditions of this case, YouTube agreed to stop collecting data on videos targeting children, and YouTube and Google were prohibited from future COPPA violations.
