Google Maps has guided Spanish investigators to solve a year-long murder mystery by capturing the moment someone stored a suspect’s body in a car.

Police in the northern region of Castile and Leon began their investigation in November 2023 when someone reported a male relative missing.

Officers arrested a woman who was the missing man’s partner and another man who was her former partner in Syria County on November 12. The police said In a statement on Wednesday.

Investigators then raided the suspects’ homes and searched their cars, but they also found an unexpected lead in the search for more evidence.

The statement said these were “photos on a location app” where they “discovered a vehicle that may have been used during the commission of the crime.”

Spanish media circulated pictures of a screenshot from the Street View feature on Google Maps dating back to October 2024, showing a person throwing something covered with a white shroud into the trunk of a car in the village of Taguico. This was the first time in 15 years that the car had arrived in Taguico City I mentioned.

Police said the photos helped solve the case, although they were not “conclusive.”

Another series of photos showed a blurred silhouette of a person transporting a large white package in a wheelbarrow, officials said BBC reported.

Central government representative in Syria, Miguel Latorre, told public broadcaster RTVE that the person was “presumably” considered the perpetrator.

A severely decomposed human torso believed to belong to the victim was found this month in a cemetery in Syria Province, police said. The daily newspaper El Pais reported that he was a 33-year-old Cuban.

The judge ordered the suspects detained and the investigation remains open.

Google’s technology has helped investigators make breakthroughs in cases before. In 2022, an Italian mafia leader who has been on the run for decades after being captured… Spotted on Google Maps.

In 2019, the remains of a man missing for 22 years were finally found thanks to someone who zoomed in on the neighborhood he once lived in in Florida. Google satellite images I noticed a car submerged in the lake.
