GM and Ford’s 2024 US sales are best since 2019

These results are consistent with industry-wide expectations for automakers. Market research firms expect US automakers to report total sales of about 16 million vehicles in 2024, representing the industry’s best year since nearly 17 million units were sold in 2019.

“The driving force of our business is new vehicles with great design and performance across our portfolio, helping our dealers satisfy more customers. We carry great momentum into 2025,” Rory Harvey, GM’s president of global markets, said in a statement.

GM announced sales of more than 2.7 million vehicles for 2024, an increase of 4.3%. From the previous year. The automaker sold 2.9 million units in 2019.

GM said sales were driven by increases across all four of its U.S. brands as well as a nearly 50% increase in electric vehicle sales to more than 114,400 units.

The trend was similar at Ford, which announced a significant increase in sales of its “electric” cars, including electric cars and hybrids.

Ford reported on Friday Sales of 2.08 million vehicles in 2024, up from just under 2 million in 2023. In 2019, the automaker sold 2.42 million vehicles in the United States. For the fourth quarter, Ford reported an 8.8% increase in sales year over year to 530,660 vehicles sold. .

The automaker said full-year sales of its conventional internal combustion engine vehicles increased 0.2% compared to 2023, while electric vehicle sales increased 38.3% year-on-year.

Electric vehicles, including hybrids and electric vehicles, represent 13.7% of Ford’s total annual sales.
