The German Air Force says that the “rapid reaction alert” was ordered by NATO to investigate the Russian plane in the neutral airspace.

The German Air Force says it has defended two Eurofighter planes to track a Russian The reconnaissance plane after it entered the neutral airspace over the Baltic Sea.

In a statement, the Air Force said that the “quick reaction alert” was ordered on Sunday by NATO to investigate an unidentified plane flying without a radio plan or communication.

She added, “It was a Russian reconnaissance plane from IL-20M. After the visual recognition, we handed out assistance duties to the plane to our Swedish partners in NATO and we returned to Rostock-Laage.”

The operation was conducted while NATO is preparing to assemble the North Atlantic Council on Tuesday to discuss a separate incident related to Russian oil on Estonia.

According to Reuters, this meeting is to address what Tallinn called “unprecedented and shameless” of its air field on Friday when three Mig-31 fighters entered without permission and remained for 12 minutes before leaving.

The demand sparked a condemnation of NATO and European governments, which described the incursion as “reckless” and “dangerous provocation”.

Estonian Prime Minister Christine Michel requested “NATO 4 consultations” about the “completely unacceptable” incursion. Article 4 allows NATO members to hold consultations with the coalition when any country believes that its regional safety, political independence, or security are threatened.

The Russian Ministry of Defense denied this allegation, while Estonia called for Moscow’s charge in protest.

Tensions have been increased in recent weeks through a series of violations of the airspace along the eastern side of NATO.

Romania said last week that its radar had discovered a Russian drone, which prompted it to scramble the combat aircraft. Earlier this month, Poland reported that it had shot down several drones during a Russian air attack on Ukraine, which represents the first time that NATO forces participated directly in this conflict.

Ukraine said that incidents show that Moscow is testing the Western determination because the war is fourth. Military analysts note that such incursions are intelligence collection, NATO responses and pressure tactics designed to clarify NATO members who are used to Russia.
