General Jack Keane reacts to the Pentagon’s new press access policy

Fox News chief strategist and retired General Jack Keane offered his reaction to the Trump administration’s new Pentagon press access policy during an appearance on “Special report“On Tuesday.

“It doesn’t seem like the whole story is being told to our viewers here,” Kane told Fox News’ Bret Baier. “What they’re really doing is they want to provide journalists with information, and this will be their story. This is not journalism. Journalism is about going out and finding the story and getting all the facts to back it up.”

He continued: “No one is going to walk in and knock on the door of a four-star general or a senior civilian political leader at the Pentagon. It’s never happened before, but I’ve had reporters chasing a story or that something was going on with the military, and those things are legitimate.” “If anything, what can frustrate us sometimes is that we’re not ahead of you, and something bad happens, and we do our thing together and — sometimes — ‘let’s wait a few days before we talk about it’ and you guys work on it, and that’s journalism.”

Keane said he wanted to train his generals on dealing with the press so that they would “welcome” journalists and not be intimidated by them.

“I look at the media as the conduit for communication with the American people, and that’s the way I’ve always seen it and believed in supporting it,” Keane said. “There have been times when stories have been made up that make me feel a little scared, yes – but that’s usually because we did something that wasn’t as good as we should have done it.”
