Gear Bolsonaro’s lawyers will make the defense arguments in his trial at the Supreme Court in Brazilia on Wednesday.

The former Brazilian president ruled the country from January 2019 to December 2022, and was accused of making a coup attempt after his defeat in the 2022 presidential elections.

On Tuesday, the judge who heads the trial claimed that Bolsonaro tried to install a “real dictatorship” after losing to his left -wing opponent, Luiz Luiz Inosio Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro denied these charges and tried him against him as a “witch chase” with political motivation.

The former president was not present in a session on Tuesday, which was the beginning of the last stage of the trial.

A committee of five judges in the Supreme Court is expected to reach a ruling by September 12. If convicted, Bolsonaro can be sentenced to more than 40 years in prison.

His lawyer indicated health reasons for Bolsonaro’s decision to follow the procedures on Tuesday from his home in Brazilia. The 70 -year -old former commander stabbed the campaign path in 2018 and has witnessed frequent health problems since then.

Brazil’s Prosecutor, Paulo Gonet, explained the charges against the former president and his alleged participants in the opening session.

He was charged with the leadership of an armed criminal organization, in an attempt to abolish the democratic rule of law, attempted the coup, the damage to federal property, and the deterioration of the included heritage – the charges they deny.

The date of allegations dates back to before Polsonaro supporters stormed government buildings on January 8, 2023.

After an intense investigation, the police claimed that Bolsonaro and his seven accused were planning actions to cancel and preserve democratic law in power early in 2019.

Police says he had a “full knowledge” with a plan to assassinate Luiz Inosio Lula da Silva – who was at that time the elected president – alongside his teammate Lula and the Supreme Court judge Alexander de Mora.

One of the eight men who obtained the trial, the best former assistant in Bolsonaro, MARO CID, has signed a call deal, and they agreed to provide evidence in exchange for a lighter penalty.

According to public prosecutors, some of the most harmful evidence against Bolsonaro comes from the information provided by CID.

CID lawyer spoke at the session on Tuesday and confirmed that his client was not forced to hit the guilt of guilt, and thus refuted the accusations that his testimony was extracted under pressure.

One of the Polisonaro lawyers, Celsu Velardi, said in the Wednesday session that he would respond to a “score” point to what the lawyer of the Al -Jinaya Administration said.

Once all the defendants’ lawyer has taken their role in speaking, the judges will play their voices one by one. This is likely to happen in one of the sessions scheduled next week.

The majority of three out of five votes are needed to find the defendant guilty.

Every judge after that can recommend a judgment for those who were convicted.

Polsonaro and his accused of participants can resume the full Supreme Court if convicted.
