The former surgeon stopped and spoke to the court after his eldest son, whose name was not used in the trial, presented evidence.

Survivors organized a mistreatment of the surgeon to protest outside the court in Vaness, and held signs such as “never again” and “I accuse you.”

On Wednesday, another victim, Celine Mahoto, sent a message to President Emmanuel Macron, saying that France had not implemented a national policy “to prevent soldiers for children.”

The retired surgeon also said that he considered himself a “responsible” for the death of two of his victims – Mattis Vinite, who died after an overdose in 2021 while his family says he suicide, and another man was found found in 2020.
