The Treasury announced on Monday that Social Security Commissioner Frank Pesiniano will also work as the CEO of the Fund Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

“Frank is a businessman with an exceptional record in the leadership of growth and efficiency in the private and public sectors now,” Besent said in a statement after announcing the choice of Pesiniano to take over the new position.
The Treasury Minister added that the SSA is one of the most federal agencies facing the public and widespread influence and have technological goals and similar customer service, which made Bisignano a natural choice for this role.

Pisiniano’s appointment as a social security commissioner was confirmed by a majority of 53 votes compared to 47 votes in May, and his newly created role with the American Tax Authority does not require Senate confirmation. His term will continue in SSA until January 2031.

During his time in SSA, the agency expanded its customer service offers and made the online customer service portal available around the clock throughout the week. SSA also focused on improving scheduling and phone services.
Pisiniano referred in a letter he sent in August to Senator. Elizabeth WarrenD-Mass, that waiting times on the agency’s 800 national line, improved from 27.6 minutes to 20 minutes from October 5, 2024 to May 7, 2025. Then it continued to improve to 10.4 minutes from May 8 to July 25, and to 4.6 minutes from July 21 to July 25, according to his message.

Pisiniano wrote that waiting times in the field offices of SSA ranged between 28.3 and 30.9 minutes in the fiscal year 2024, but it improved to 20.9 minutes from April to June. He also pointed out that the accumulation of initial deficit claims decreased by about 26% of its highest level ever, which is 1,269,713 in June 2024.
