Former Minister of Justice David Lamiti, United Nations Ambassador to Canada

Prime Minister Mark Carne has officially named David Lamiti as the next Ambassador of Canada to the United Nations.

“The new Canada government has a mandate to enhance and diversify our international partnerships, relying on the initial and effective leaders to represent the value of Canada’s power in a rapidly shift world,” Carney said in a statement announced on the appointment on Thursday.

CBC News first Break On Wednesday, the former Minister of Justice was leaving the Prime Minister’s office and being seen for a diplomatic role.

The former liberal deputy was the president of the judge during the era of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau from 2019 to 2023. He resigned from Parliament in 2024.

Lametti has been working as the main secretary of Carney in recent months, and the two hockey played together at Oxford University.

Lametti will replace the United Nations representative issued in Canada, Bob Ray, on November 17.

Ray Lami congratulated a post on social media and indicated that he spoke to Carney earlier this summer about leaving his position.

Carney also announced the appointment of Vera Alexander as the next ambassador of Canada in Germany. A job civil employee will replace him John Horgan Who died last year.
