Actor Saif Ali Khan’s return home after surgery, walking confidently and smiling at well-wishers, has sparked heated debate online.
While some celebrated his resilience, some skeptics, including doctors, questioned the plausibility of his quick recovery. Bengaluru-based cardiologist, Dr. Deepak Krishnamurthy, stepped in to clear the air and provide a professional perspective on the actor’s remarkable comeback.
“For people who doubt whether Saif Ali Khan has actually undergone spinal surgery (even some doctors!), let me remind you that recovery timelines can surprise you,” Krishnamurthy wrote on X.
The doctor shared a video of his mother from 2022, when she was 78 years old and was walking with a broken foot in a cast and after spinal surgery. “A younger, fitter person like Saif can recover faster.”
According to experts, the stab injuries spared the spinal cord and nerves, and his leg strength was not affected. Expert surgeons performed a meticulous procedure without any post-operative complications. Saif’s regular exercise regime played an important role, as physical fitness speeds up the recovery process from surgeries or injuries.
Dr Krishnamurthy also dismissed the disbelief surrounding Saif’s recovery as ignorance. “Nowadays, patients are walking and climbing stairs just three or four days after their heart bypass surgeries. It is time to educate ourselves before proudly displaying ignorance on social media.”
Modern surgical advances and fitness regimens have revolutionized recovery processes. Comparing Saif’s case to the more complex surgery his mother performed – repairing a spinal fracture – Dr. Krishnamurthy said she was discharged from the hospital within 24 hours and resumed walking almost immediately.
“What Saif underwent was repair of the cerebrospinal fluid leak, which is much less serious. He noted that at his age and level of fitness, recovery is expected to be faster.
“For those who doubt Saif’s recovery, especially doctors, all I can say is, get better exposure. Talk to the experts, read, and learn.”
