Nintendo has finally given us a first look at its next console, the Switch 2.

Like its predecessor, the Switch 2 is a hybrid home and portable console. The detachable Joy-Con controllers now use magnets and are slightly larger, and improved hardware will allow for better performance (although there aren’t any exact technical specifications yet).

As for the games, all we’ve seen so far is what appears to be a new Mario Kart game. Nintendo said it will hold a live presentation on April 2. The console will be released sometime in 2025.

The original Switch was released on March 3, 2017. It has become one of the most popular gaming consoles of all time, porting over 146 million devices. The Switch helped turn around Nintendo’s fortunes after the disappointing Wii U.

The Switch has been home to some of Nintendo’s biggest games ever, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility with games from the original Switch (with some unspecified exceptions).
