From August 5 to the fourteenth, member states of the United Nations, NGOs and scientists in Geneva met to negotiate a global plastic material treaty. One country that places itself in a furnace in that battle – Rwanda. The Eastern African nation banned plastic bags in 2008 … and in 2019, this ban was extended to all one use plastic materials. But despite these comprehensive measures, Rwanda is still struggling with plastic pollution. While Kigali pushes the battle on the international stage, local companies and NGOs are working to find solutions. Our correspondent Juliet Montelli brings us this report.
