Ferrari team manager Ferdrik Vaswar says that the upcoming changes in the middle of the season on the Formula 1 bases on the flexible wings “can be gamechanger” for the competitive image at the front of the network.
FIA, the governing body, issued a technical directive in January revealing that the tougher flexibility tests on the front wings will be presented to the Spanish Grand Racing, the ninth round of the season that takes place from May 30 to June 1.
Ferrari has endured a bleak start for their campaign, as the Italian team has already returned to 152 points from the leaders of the McLaren Championship after only six rounds.
Most teams are expected to bring up the upgrade packages to the Great Prix Emilia Romagna this week, the first European race for this season, but Vasseur believes that the changes made by teams to ensure their compliance with the new rules in Barcelona can have a more important impact.
In an exclusive interview with Sky SPORTS F1 On Wednesday at the MARANELO headquarters in Ferrari, Vasour said: “We are at the point where it is difficult to make a large upgrade on the car because after four years with the same regulations, we are fighting more for the details.
“It is possible that the largest one is Spain because we have a clear change in the organization with the full new front wing. This may change the championship image slightly. Let’s wait for this.
“It can be a reset on the immediate image, but not in the championship. The man who will lead the championship in Spain will continue to lead the championship after Spain, but in terms of pure performance, it may be Gamechanger.”
Vasseur’s comments are the latest hint from one of McLaren’s competitors that there is a belief that the speed mode will suffer from loss of performance from changing the base, as Red Paul Christian Horner coach repeatedly expressed his interest in the influence of technical guidance.
McLaren Oscar Piasstri and Lando Norris, who are sitting first and second in a row in the arrangement of drivers, have expressed their confidence that the changes will not be a problem for their team.
The guidance will witness the permissible level of flexibility of 15 mm from movement to 10 mm, with the delay of its designer implementation to give the difference enough time to fulfill the requirements.
FIA has already tightened the rear wings bases in the second round of the season in China, but this does not seem to affect the arrangement of the attackers.
“The poor car made it difficult for Hamilton adaptation”
There was a tremendous noise about Ferrari, which would come in the season after they signed Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes, but it was an easy beginning for the time of world champion seven times in red.
Hamilton is only seventh in the drivers ranking, while his teammate Charles Licerk is only 12 points in fifth place.
The British enjoyed the joy of a moment with the enemy’s race victory in China and the third in a brief coordination in Miami, but he greatly struggled, even more than Leclerc, in the qualifiers and more than the full race distance.
Vasseur believes that the struggles of the broader team with the car made Hamilton’s challenge to adapt 12 years after Mercedes more difficult.
He said: “The car is not at the level that we expected.
“I think that if you fly and win every one weekend, it is easier for them to adapt to the team.
“But I would like to say that as long as the cooperation is positive and constructive, even if it is not its use at the end of each week in terms of the result, I think we are better understanding each other, not only with me but the technical side. I think this goes in the right direction and I am confident of the future.”
Hamilton occupied the headlines in the last time in Miami after he felt frustrated by the team’s radio through the summons of the strategy coming from the Ferrari hole wall, but Vasuor insists that such incidents do not disturb him as long as there is a questioned interrogation after that.
He added: “I never get upset with this, as long as we are able to have a good discussion yet.
“We have to keep in mind that they have to jump on the radio while driving his car in Miami on 330 (KPH) between the walls, under pressure with the result.
“They are not sometimes happy with the result, with the strategy, or with the balance of the car, and they live for millions of people. The most important thing for me is the content of extracting information.”
