Robin Niman’s journey on the way to the big final in the European song competition was less than the destination, and more than the friends he made along the road in the sauna attached to the background of his car.

Niman and his friends support the hope of hope in Sweden and their song Just take a sauna, An optimistic poem for the culture of northern European sauna.

So they built a sauna together, then they pulled it behind Volvo in the eighties of the last century for about 3000 km of Vörå, Finland, to Basel, Switzerland, in the final confrontation of the musical competition on Saturday.

“It was a beautiful journey full of interviewing people all the way,” Niman said. As it happens Nil Kӧksal host.

“The essence of our project is delivery and building bridges with other people, going to the sauna with strangers, and we hope that it will get out of the sauna with friends.”

The sauna as a big equalizer

Niman and his colleagues left the Kaj fans – oa lönnbäck, aja lund and Tom Tiainen – Finland earlier this month and led for eight days, and Stockholm, Copenhagen and Frankfurt crossed a sauna trailer in Basel on Thursday.

Before their launch, they posted about their adventures on social media, and they called on people along their way to join them in the sauna, which could accommodate comfortably from six to eight people.

When they spoke to CBC Radio on Monday, they were in Strande, Germany, with a “new group of friends”.

“For the time being, we open the first bottle of wine and share dinner together, and I think it is within an hour or two sauna (it will be) hot,” Niaman said.

Niman said there is no better way to communicate with people than sharing the sauna.

“First and foremost, you leave your phones outside because they are hot and equal. Second, you leave your clothes from outside,” he said.

“When you only enter a sauna with a towel around you, it is very democratic and no one really cares about the profession, income or history. You just sit there and start from scratch.”

Then, as he says, heat begins, people relax, and the conversation begins to flow.

“Some of the most valuable and deeper talks in our lives were on the sauna.”

Some “embarrassing” moments

However, he admits that the trip had its difficult positions – as if they stopped from the home of a woman in northern Sweden who saw them on Instagram and their invitation.

“I don’t know whether she forgot or thought it is better not to tell her husband,” Niman said. “Therefore, on that night, seven people, sauna and some cars were rolled on their front balcony, yes, he did not know about it. It was embarrassing.”

But even it was not identical to the tremendous power in the sauna, he says.

“We got to the heat of the sauna, and after a period of time, he relaxed,” Niman said. “Tonight was really flying, really smoothly after that.”

Kaj Sweden represents, but members of the three division come from neighboring Finland, a country of 5.5 million people and 3.3 million saunas, as they are part of the Swedish -speaking minority.

In Eurovision, the trio performs their song, Only swimming sauna – which is almost translated into “merely taking a sauna” – on a designer collection like a rural cabin in the forest, supported by dancers who wear wooden clothes or in large white towels.

Squad member Kevin Holsstrom said that the band is pleased to be an ambassador for the sauna culture.

“It is something I really support,” he said. “It is a good thing for people. It is a good thing for me, for both my mental and physical health, (it’s) also a very social event.”

Kaj entered the Eurovich National Choose Competition in Sweden, believing that she might get some vehicles in Sweden, and then unexpectedly won. Now, they are preferred by betting to win the intestinal music competition.

The winner of the Eurovision will be determined by a mix of general vote and points of national jury bodies, and Niman believes that Kaj has a good shot in victory.

But if they do not do that, Niman says, it is not a sweat from his back.

“Whether our group that we support is winning or losing, it is not a big problem,” he said. “I think we are all winning this together anyway.”
