Europeans continue to avoid Tesla with a decrease in April sales

(Reuters) -Tesla sales fell throughout Europe in April, including a 81 % decrease in Sweden to its lowest level in 2-1/2 years, and data on Friday showed, as Europeans buy more Chinese EVS and some protest against CEO Elon Musk.

The car industry’s sales decreased for four consecutive months in most parts of Europe. For the first quarter, sales of all electric cars fully increased by 28 % in Europe, while Tesla sales fell by 37.2 %.

In Sweden, the sales of new Tesla cars in April decreased by 80.7 % to its lowest level since October 2022. Its sales in the Netherlands decreased by 73.8 % to the weakest of this month since 2022 and decreased by 33 % in Portugal, a larger decrease than the previous month.

Data on Thursday showed that sales in Denmark decreased by 67.2 %.

The numbers will increase doubts about whether the launch of a renewable model in some countries can revive Tesla’s fortunes in Europe.

Buyers for cars can already order a new model y across most Europe, but Tesla sites in Germany, Britain, France and Italy all say they will start in June. It will take a few months before sales data appears if the updated version of the car has won consumers.

Will Roberts, head of auto research at RHO Motion, said its sales may go back to the other EV makers, but each month of weak performance threatens the expectations of the entire group.

Meanwhile, the group offers discounts on car loans and other financial incentives for the new purchases for its current models in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Britain and France, in an attempt to raise the demand.

Tesla is fighting an increasing competition from the competitors of traditional car manufacturers, while new Chinese expatriates are launching new EVS and often cheaper.

“I have been eroded by Tesla technological progress largely with the current form collection,” said Andy Lailand, co -founder of the SCIights Series Series Series. “Competition from both arrivals from old cars and Chinese will weigh sales.”

Musk, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, participated in the Ministry of Government efficiency, leading to efforts to reduce federal jobs. But he said last week that he would penetrate the time he was devoting the Trump administration and spending more time in Tesla administration.

Car revenue decreased in the first quarter of the company by a fifth difference, and net profit decreased by 71 %, both missing, Wall Street estimates.

On Thursday, its president, Robin Dunnolm, denied a report on Wall Street Journal that the members of the Board of Directors were looking for the new CEO.
