Employed microls can revolutionize food and safety tracking

At a delicious juvenile turn, scientists have succeeded in taking olive oil optics to create the first microscope ever completely made of edible substances. If marketed, they may provide an easy and safe way to monitor food or medications from within your body.

Technology, which was presented earlier this month in the magazine Advanced optical materialsIt takes an interesting tendency to the common cooking oil drops, from which a photon of light is emitted when it is exposed to a specific amount of energy. Arrange multiple drops in a room full of mirrors, and shine together more crawling – like a concentrated light beam.

The researchers tested more than ten different types of materials – flower oil, cooked butter, ordinary water and more – to find out what generates laser cleaner. The winner was olive oil.

One of the prominent ingredients in olive oil is chlorophyll, the most common molecule to make plants green. In this case, chlorophyll molecules, besieged in the sticky surface of olive oils, produced photons in a series of species, turning the olive oil drop into laser.

Chlorophyll brightness changes according to the size and density of oil drops, making the laser very sensitive to environmental conditions, according to the study. For example, adding it to different dishes of food and monitoring the changes in the laser allowed researchers to measure things such as sugar or acidity concentration

Moreover, researchers managed to encrypt data inside the drops closer to barcode lines, to peach compote. Surprisingly, the data – the date set on April 26, 2017, which coincides with being the first international history to stop food waste – is intact for more than a year, indicating the capabilities of Microlser to bear information safely, such as the manufacturer’s identity or expiration date.

The authors of the study concluded that “since this is the first such a study, there are many possibilities for the development of the various edible lasers and its applications, which can eventually find their way to daily use.”
