As raging fires sweep through California, leaving a trail of devastation, a wealthy business tycoon… Elon Musk SpaceX announced that it will supply Starlink terminals for free to affected areas in Los Angeles.

He made the announcement when retweeting screenshots of a reporter crediting the Starlink internet service with the connection.

The reporter said Starlink is “the only reason we’re able to hear and communicate with you guys right now is because there’s no cell service at all in this entire area.”

Swalwell made the comments After Musk shared a video, which he said was taken by a friend in Los Angeles, which includes footage of some of the destruction.

“This is very sad. Elon, I think you want to help as much as I want to help. I will use my position on the Homeland Security Committee to be open about concerns about the cause of the fire and the response to it,” Swalwell said in response. The video was shared by Musk.

“Can you use this platform and your money to help poor families who have lost their homes/places of work?” the congressman asked.

Musk claimed that the Golden State wildfires could have been prevented, but regulations are getting in the way of taking steps to prevent the inferno.

“These fires are easily avoidable, but irrational regulations in California prevent action, so homes burn year after year and more people die,” Musk declared in a post on X.

He said: “My friend texted me that his house burned down again. His old house also burned down in an out-of-control wildfire several years ago. The state of California could easily stop these massive fires, but they refuse to put up firebreaks for false environmental reasons.” In a separate post.

He asserted in another post that “crazy environmental regulations prevent the construction of firebreaks and the removal of trees near homes,” which “allows massive fires to break out.”
