The Indian Reserve Bank changed the general bank holiday in Maharashtra for EID-E-MILAD from September 5 to September 8, after the state government’s decision to avoid Saddam with the Gannati processions.
In the notification, RBI confirmed that all financial market operations – including transactions in government securities, foreign currencies, financial markets, and rupee interest products – will remain open on September 5 and will be suspended on September 8, monitoring the revised holiday.
The review comes after the General Administration Department announced in Maharashtra a change at the date of the EID-E-Milad vacation for Mumbai and its suburbs. This shift was driven by a decision of the Islamic community to conduct processions on September 8 instead, ensuring smooth coordination with Anant Chatordashi’s celebrations on September 6.
As a result of the update, all the financial settlements due will be postponed on Monday, September 8, to Tuesday, September 9. In addition, any SDF and MSF bids will be reflected on September 4 on September 5. These liquidity windows will continue naturally on all other days.
The listed holiday was canceled earlier on September 5 to the financial markets, which will now work as usual on that date. However, the September 5 holiday will continue to be applied in the areas outside Mumbai and its environs, according to the state of the state government.
Coordination between the religious celebrations and the administrative planning of the state emphasizes the complexity of public holiday management in a diverse country such as Maharashtra. The rapid review of RBI guarantees the stability of the financial market amid changing the table.
