Duolingo Located in the CNET menu from The best language learning applicationsOn Monday, the free version has presented a new energy mechanic that can push your learning experience.

Moussa Wayne told me in an interview: “We want to reward you to do a good job and find ways to motivate you through this mechanic, instead of punishing you only for the incorrectness of things during learning.” Wayne is a great software engineer in Duolingo, and thought about the new system. “We believe this will make Duolingo more fun and more just.”

The new mechanics replace the Hearts system in the free version of Duolingo. Hearts gave you five hearts a day, and if you have got a wrong question in the lesson, you have lost a heart. If you make five questions, you will not be able to follow up.

There was a way to practice past lessons to restore hearts, but you must finish a full lesson to restore one heart. The old system may slow your progress or put it in the event of stopping if you continue to struggle with a specific lesson. But the new power system should make it easier for people to continue learning.

Some people who use the free version of Duolingo on iOS are now new mechanic, and others will see it on iOS soon. People should see Android change later this year.

Three smartphone screens show new energy mechanics in duolingo.

Learning with duolingo can give you energy

With the new system, it starts with 25 units of energy, and still loses one unit when you make a question. But you will work to “recharge” over time, and you can gain energy by watching ads between lessons. Some of the treasure boxes in the app can also be rewarded with energy.

But the main way to earn energy again is to obtain questions correctly.

Wayne said: “If you get a lot of things in a row, such as perhaps the five editorial and narration mark, the editorial and narration mark 10 … There is this small animation that shows some numbers and tells you how much (energy) you won.”

Dolingo’s intention is to motivate people to continue learning, even when they make mistakes. In this way, you can continue to move forward in your lessons.

Getting a line in Duolingo can renew some of your energy.

“The mistakes are part of learning,” Wayne said. “This allows learners to engage more with duolingo.”

Although this apparently a simple change, I think it will be a great help for people trying to learn a new language or How to play chess.

When I used the application to Learn a little Italian Before traveling to Roma last year, I felt that the heart system forced me to really focus on what I was learning.

But I still feel frustrated when I had to restart the lessons, because I used all hearts. I felt frustrated double when I used hearts in lessons that I did not think would be especially useful for travel, like the lesson in describing a scary hotel.

If I am not using the application with the aim of learning a travel language, I may save it. But I imagine that the power system will help reduce some frustration that people may feel when they make mistakes in their lessons.

According to duolingo, people who have already used the new system have responded positively to change.

Wayne said: “Many people have been involved with Dolingo much more,” Wayne said. “We already see learners do more in the power system more than they were with hearts.”
