DS9 Actress I Forgot Played Jerry’s Girlfriend On Seinfeld

The fictional Jerry Seinfeld (played by the real Jerry Seinfeld) hasn’t been particularly lucky in love. The Cardassian occupation of Bajor has plenty of real-world corollaries, and serves as the backdrop for some of the series’ darkest episodes, including One inspired by an Agatha Christie novel which examines the corruption of morals that survival in wartime can require and which pits Keira against a Cardassian assassin. Ziyal is one of the only good things to come from the occupation, but she was unfortunately killed when she helped her friends escape during the Cardassian takeover of the space station, leading to her father’s eventual complete mental breakdown. She’s a truly tragic character through and through, but thankfully, Smith brings a great deal of humanity to the half-Cardassian, half-Bajoran with a heart of gold during her time as the character. (Younger versions of Ziyal have been played by Cyia Batten and Tracy Middendorf.)

Rachel Smith’s fame came when she caught George in his clothes In a scene that introduced many of us to the word “shrinkage,” It’s a far cry from Ziyal’s role as the catalyst for her father who eventually started a doomsday cult, but she’s not the only “Seinfeld” guest actress to also land a spot on “Deep Space Nine.” Phil Morris, who played Jackie Chiles, the lawyer of Jerry Kramer’s (Michael Richardson) neighbor, played several roles in Deep Space Nine, including a Klingon and Jim Hadar, which is a lot of fun. Brian George, who played café owner Babu Bhatt on “Seinfeld,” also played Dr. Julian Bashir’s (Alexander Siddig) father in “Deep Space Nine.” There are actually dozens of crossovers, which is somewhat surprising given the fact that one of the most important cast members of “Deep Space Nine” absolutely hated his time on the sitcom “A Show About Nothing.”
