At least 30 people were injured, some seriously, in a cable car accident in the Spanish ski resort of Aston, in the Pyrenees mountain range, emergency services and local media reported on Saturday.
She added that nine of the injured were in very serious condition, while eight others had moderate injuries.
State television channel TVE reported that about 80 people were still trapped on the chairlift. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
Several helicopters are operating in the area to rescue the skiers who are still trapped and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
Pictures and videos on social media showed a number of people lying on the snow under the ski lift.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he was “shocked” by the news of the accident, expressing his closeness to the injured and their families.
