Djed Spence insists that he is not heavily expected to become the first Muslim to play with England.
The full back of Tottenham was included in the Thomas Tuchille team For the double international head against Andorra and Serbia and could be the first time against the former in Villa Park on Saturday.
In a time of the growing religious and ethnic tensions in the country, Spence can forgive to feel added pressure, but the 25 -year -old simply focuses on matters in the field.
He said: “I do not feel pressure on certain things. I just play football with a smile on my face, and I am happy, and the rest will take care of yourself.”
“If I can do this, you can do this. Not only Muslim children, any child of any faith. Place your mind on something and you can do this.”
When asked about being the first Muslim to play with the three lions, he added: “It is a blessing – it is amazing. I do not really have words.
“I pray to God a lot, I give gratitude to God. In the most difficult moments of my life, the darkest moments, I always thought that God was always beside me. It is a great thing for me, my faith.”
Tottenham took to penetrate the time for Spence
Spence was signed by Spears in 2022, but manager Antonio Conte was not affected, saying it was “an investment by the club.”
He was sent on loan to Rin, Leeds and Girona before finally getting Angtecoglou’s confidence.
London began his first start in Tottenham against Southampton in December 2024 – after 881 days of signing the club – and he did not look back, becoming a key player during the reign of Thomas Frank in the first weeks of the new season.
He is now looking to make a spray on the international stage under Tuchel.
“It is certainly a big deal to play in England, 100 %,” said Spence.
“The director made me feel comfortable, everyone here made me comfortable. I also played in less than 21 years, so I know a little more. But I haven’t done it before. The children made me feel welcome and took me.”
